Michael's Tribute Fund

Created by Candice 16 years ago
Hi & welcome to Michael Bakers Tribute Fund. This tribute fund has been created in memory of my dad to help raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Michael died of MND on August 8th 2007 after a 7year battle, he kept smiling and laughing up until the day before he died and refused to give in, my mum took him out everyday and thats what he always believed kept him going so long! My dad required 24hr care, he needed a nippv ventilation machine to help him sleep to begin with and as his condition deterioted to eat and in the end just to be able to survive. Dad made the most of every day in his 7 year battle. Mum had very little help to care for dad and did all his care herself apart from 2 carers who got him up and put him to bed for the last 4-5years. Mum faught for the best for dad and gave up her life to make his better. Dads condition failed to be seen by community services as life limited or terminal and mum had to fight for night sitters, she had to pay for many herself as only 1 a week was provided the rest of the nights she would sleep on a camp bed next to him caring for him during the day and night. I would spend my days off helping mum & dad go out and feel truely privaledged to have been given the time i had with such a special and brave person. I am very proud of my whole family for the last 8years and just want to say how proud dad would be too. The Motor Neurone Disease Assocaition need our help to help the people and families living today with this disease, and one day maybe we can help find a cure so other families won't go through what thousands live with everyday! Throughout the disease there is no effect on a suffers brain, they know everything thats going on! This disease has no cure, we need to change that! My dad had 7years, many do not even have 1! You can donate money, or start up an online sponsor page. Simply choose one of the links above to see what you can do. All money raised on these pages will be earmarked as being donations made via this Tribute Fund when they reach the Motor Neurone Disease Association. If you like, you can also sign the guest book and tell other people about this service. Kind Regards, candice baker & family
